ABOUT

my jewellery

I am an goldsmith and jewellery artist who has been using textile techniques and materials for
a long time. I have concentrated in particular on crochet, which is a technique that allows me to
construct form in an almost organic way. I associate crochet with peace, care, industriousness and
traditional women's occupations. In using crochet as a technique, I am incorporating these values
into my own work.

My jewellery can be grouped into three categories:

1: The trophies.
These pieces are based on mass-produced objects intended as toys and ornaments for private homes.
I have bought these objects with another intention - to give them a new role and bring them closer to
people. In crocheting small suits for these figures, I am also making it easier to wear them. I like to think that they have gained a new lease of life, from a passive existence as an ornament to an active companion.

2: The organs.
Here, the crocheting technique is used as construction method. The pieces grow almost by chance into forms that remind of human organs or underwater creatures. Sometimes gems, semi-precious or just plain stones, are added. This makes the forms more complicated and bizarre,- as if the stones are being attacked or devoured. I think of these pieces as small reminders of our inner, secret lives; who knows what lingers in there..

3: The metalwork.
These recent works are partly related to the organ category, though some of them are less abstract. I accidentally started to work with metal again after a break of some eight years. And oh was that nice! So as yet, there is no paramount theme in this category, but in time I think there will be several objects made for the pure pleasure of being a craftsperson.
